Premier Division Report
by
Mr. M Schneider - Publications Secretary
Biddestone regain pole position
With Robson Taylor, Chippenham League Premier division leaders Westbury
Rangers A in Knockout cup action both Biddestone Social and Semington
Rovers had the chance to claim a three way split at the summit but
Semington hopes disappeared when Box Rovers were unable to raise a team
for their game at St Mary’s Steeple Ashton which left the door open for
Biddestone to joint Westbury in the number one spot and they duly
obliged thanks to a 7-1 victory away at Gladstone Arms.
Biddestone led 2-0 at the interval thanks to goals from John O’Meara and
Jamie Lyons who thumped home a long range free kick. The second half saw
the Biddy boys who were looking for an impressive win ahead of their
knockout cup semi-final date with The Crown FC cut loose. O’Meara added
his second of the game. Shahram Hemmati helped himself to a brace and
Nat Auckland’s single made it six.
Gavin Ferris scored for Gladstone Arms with Biddestone’s seventh coming
via a horrific own goal which was scored by Darren Legg.
Maud Heath Sports 5, Potterne ‘A’ FC 2
Dave Beal’s Maud Heath Sports may still be in the bottom two but their
5-2 victory at home to Potterne A moves them within touching distance of
a couple of sides and a few more wins from their remaining eight matches
may just be good enough to keep them in the division.
Maud Heath have been buoyed by the return of Andy Townsend to the side
and Townsend will hope that his years of experience will help Beal out
as the Calne based side battle to beat the drop. Ali Duncan, Chris Edes
and Stuart Windsor scored the first half goal that gave Maud Heath a 3-1
interval lead, Steve House replied for Potterne.
House also scored Potterne’s second but two further goals from Duncan
saw him complete his own three timer and Maud Heath’s five-star
performance.
Winsley 1, Corsham Centre 2
Winsley and Corsham Centre renewed their old rivalries for the second
time in a fortnight when they went head to head at Brown Park, Freshford
and although the outcome was the same as the first meeting with the
Centre win the score was a lot closer as Winsley who were beaten 8-0 two
weeks ago were beaten 2-1 in the reverse fixture.
Corsham way have been the better team, but Winsley had the better
chances and Nketia Aboagye who hit the side netting twice should have
done better in front of goal as the hosts tried to get a grip on the
game. Winsley were to pay for those missed opportunities when Simon Gray
put the Centre ahead.
Winsley were boosted by the return of the ever youthful Neil Kirkpatrick
but it was Jason Povey who got the villagers back in the game when he
tied the scores with a goal on his debut.
Darrin Moss scored the all important second for the Centre who should
have been awarded a penalty late on for a foul on Simon Gray but their
appeal was waved away and they held out to claim what could yet prove to
be a vital win in their bid for a fifth successive winners crown.
MATCHES OFF: Dog & Fox Ashley v Holt, Semington Rovers v Box
Rovers.
