Division Two Report by Mr. M Schneider - Publications Secretary

Paget, magic earns Bromham, Hullavington scalp

DIVISION TWO: With three of the top four sides in Division Two in WG Parr Trophy action, leaders Hullavington were expected to open up a 10 point lead on their closest rivals who are AFC Bell, but things didn’t go to plan for Matt Wilkins side as they suffered their first defeat of the season after they were beaten 3-0 away at Bromham (Sunday) but although the result was a shock it was on the cards as the leaders hadn’t been playing well of late.

Bromham’s hero may have been Freddie Paget who scored all three of the goals which came in the first 30 minutes of a first half which saw a shambolic Hullavington still suffering from the night before as they were celebrating Ed Wilkins 24th birthday.

However everyone of Steve Moxham’s side deserves credit for the effort they put in against their guests who went into the game knowing it was a potential banana skin but not really thinking that the villagers who were five places below them in the standings would actually get anything from the game.

Biddestone White Horse 0, Bradford Renegades 2

Bradford Renegades took another massive step avoiding an immediate return to division three with a 2-0 triumph away at Biddestone White Horse who were favourites to chalk up a second win of the season against a Renegades side who they had already beaten 5-1 but things didn’t go to plan for Matt Unwin’s side as a goal in each half led to their downfall.

After a first half that saw Biddestone hit the post and miss a host of chances Renegades broke the deadlock on the stroke of half time when Lance Davis scored from the penalty spot. Renegades sealed the win late in the game and once again Davis was in the thick of the action as his corner was flicked on by Matt Ferris to Lee Ridout whose stooping header made it 2-0.

Steve Grant, Damian Moran, Jamie Burbidge along with goal scorer Ridout were all impressive for the victors who have now taken five points from their last three games.

Green Bell 1, Pig & Whistle United 1

Relegation battlers Green Bell and Pig & Whistle United had to settle for a shared of the spoils as they fought out a 1-1 draw at Sands Lane, Rowde. The result leaves Green Bell in the drop zone with Pig & Whistle just outside and with both teams having six games left to play the fight to stay in the division is as likely to be as good as the one to get out of it.

Aaron Richardson so many times the hero for Pig & Whistle gave the Melksham based side a half time lead before a second half strike from Leigh Blanchard earned Green Bell their point. Of the two sides Pig & Whistle will probably be the happier of the teams with the result as they had to use Andrew Allan as their goalkeeper and despite of his lack of action between the posts in recent times Allan had a fairly good game for Nathan Mantle’s side.

North Star A 1, Sutton Benger 3

Sutton Benger ended their six match winless run with a 3-1 win away at North Star A and in doing so have extinguished any thoughts they may have had of getting drawn into a possible relegation dogfight.

Goals from Paul Watson and Matt White gave Benger a 2-0 half time lead and the Star who hit the woodwork on a few occasions fought they were unlucky not to go into the interval on equal terms. The second half was similar to the first as the Star were denied by the woodwork before and after George Bettles had reduced the deficit for the Calne based side but that was ass close as they got.

A second from Matt White killed off any fight back from the Star and the strikers 11th goal of the season earned his team a much needed victory.
