Depleted Dog & Fox hit
for nine by Semington
PREMIER DIVISION: Shaun Gardiner’s Westbury Rangers A side maybe
surprised to find out that they are still the outright leaders of Robson
Taylor, Chippenham Sunday League, Premier division. Rangers who game
against Maud Heath Sports was postponed would have expected second
placed Dog & Fox Ashley to beat Semington Rovers and join them on 16
points at the top of the table but a very depleted Dog & Fox side who
played the whole game with 10 players slumped to one of their worse ever
defeats as Semington claimed a 9-0 victory.
If things weren’t bad enough for the Dog & Fox they had to start with
the injured Dom Khaekphong and Andy Rose who also suffered an injury
during the game which meant that they were virtually playing with eight
players which Semington definitely took full advantage of. Stuart Barber
scored Semington’s opener on 10 minutes and Jon McChesney double their
lead when he scored his first goal for the team in the 22nd minute.
Stuart Barber gave Semington a 3-0 lead on 37 minutes when he volleyed
home a stunning strike from 20 yards out and at that stage it was as
good as game over as Dog & Fox players dropped their heads as they knew
they faced a massive task in the second half.
Semington showed no mercy to their guests at St Mary’s as they hit six
unanswered goals in the second half, Kelvin Lockwood headed home on 50
minutes for 4-0 and five minutes later Barber completed his hat trick
when he nipped in at the near post to fire home number five.
Goals from Barber in the 70th and 72nd minutes took the forwards tally
for the game to five and Semington’s to seven and shortly after Andy
Harrison netted number eight. Five minutes from time Dan Rimmer
completed the scoring when his miss hit cross sailed into the net and in
truth the bizarre goal summed up what was a bad day for the Dog.
Biddestone Social 3, Potterne ‘A’ FC 1
Following their recent 5-2 loss away at Westbury Rangers A and with a
match against four time defending champions next up Biddestone Social
knew that their game against Potterne A who had beaten them twice last
term would be an important one and Dan Lardner’s side responded in style
by picking up the points courtesy of a 3-1 success which hill have given
them a massive boost ahead of their showdown with the Centre.
Pete Huntley gave Potterne the lead when he pounced on a dreadful error
from Jamie Lyons, but Biddestone fought back to take a 2-1 half time
lead thanks to goals from John O’Meara who restored parity with his
first goal of the season and Rob Pocock whose neat finish put them
ahead.
Biddestone sealed their win and completed a League double over the
visitors to Yatton Road thanks to a second from O’Meara who gave the
hosts some breathing space as they saw out the game but more importantly
the win moved them back into second place in the standings with plenty
of games in hand on the leaders.
Box Rovers 4, Cooper Avon 0
Over the last few seasons Box Rovers have dominated many games but
missed chances have proved to be very costly but against Cooper Avon it
was the tyremen who bossed the game for 80% of the match but somehow
ended up losing 4-0 as for once Rovers took their chances as and when
they came along.
Cooper had chances to score before and after Adam Taylor hit the net for
Rovers but they found centre half George Bentley in great form as he put
in a man of the match performance to almost single handedly keep a
rampaging Cooper side at bay. Liam Fullam added to Taylor’s opener for
Rovers as he gave his side a 2-0 half time lead.
The second half went the way of the first 45 minutes with the visitors
on top but it was the hosts who were doing the damage in front of goal
and when Taylor made it 3-0 with his second of the morning it was game
over as far as the tyremen were concerned but their was still time left
for Tim Jefferies to add a fourth with a spectacular curling effort
which would be a contender for any goal of the season competition.
Holt 3, The Gladstone Arms 3
The Gladstone Arms traveled to Holt for their first match since the end
of November and they did well to get a point from a match that saw them
come from 2-0 down at the break and then 3-1 down to claim a 3-3 draw in
a match which was described as very eventful by both teams who finish
the contest with 10 players apiece after having a man sent off early in
the game, Dale Goldstone saw red for Holt and Luke Hodder was dismissed
for Gladstone.
Ollie Gee gave Holt the lead and when Olly Bramell doubled their
advantage before half time the villagers look set for a third win of the
season, but Gladstone gave themselves a lifeline early in the second
half when Shane Bell reduced the arrears.
Holt quickly restored their two goal advantage thanks to a second of the
game from Ollie Gee but back cam Gladstone Arms with James Stone
scoring. Stone also hit the bar twice and Gladstone had a strong appeal
for a penalty turned down before Ryan Bell scored a late equaliser for
the visitors to Holt whose salvaged a point from a game that they looked
all set to lose.
Westbury Rangers A p, Maud Heath Sports p
On a glorious morning for football, Westbury Rangers A who had topped
the table prior to kick-off time had to sit out another week following
the postponement of their match against Maud Heath Sports which was
scheduled for Meadow Lane.
Despite their being very little rain on the days leading up to the game
the Meadow Lane pitch which was used earlier in the week needed working
on in preparation for Westbury United’s Toolstation league match on
Tuesday night which meant once against Westbury Rangers were left
without a game.
